Palermo Coach Beppe Iachini saw “steps forward” after a 3-1 defeat to Inter and is “not afraid of the sack anymore.”

This evening’s result at San Siro leaves the Sicilians only one point clear of the relegation zone.

“I saw steps forward from my team, as we played with spirit, but Inter were deadly with their first two shots on target,” Iachini told Mediaset Premium.

“We should’ve been more careful. It’s not that we ever lowered our guard and we did get back into the game before the break, starting the second half well, so it’s just a shame about the third goal.

“At this moment it’s not easy to face such strong teams, as we had Inter this week and there’s Napoli next weekend, but we have to continue our work. It’s the only way the lads will rediscover their confidence.”

Iachini was fired in November and the intervening months before his return were chaos even by Palermo standards, going through a series of tacticians.

“We had several different teams behind us in the table when I was fired, but now the situation is more complicated. We have to work on some movements, because we make mistakes, as is understandable when changing system so many times.

“Am I afraid of the sack again? No, not anymore, but then I am not the person to ask. I’ve been here for almost three years and we did many good things along with President Maurizio Zamparini.”
