Sporting director Piero Ausilio slams the 'superficial media reports' and explains Inter have no financial worries at all.

The Nerazzurri are believed to be in trouble with their budget as they have a debt of €140m, and some have speculated that Erick Thohir's club may be on the verge of failure.

“These rumours have already been disclaimed by President Thohir,” Ausilio told Libero. “Inter make use of their credit like every other club. Thohir has a well-defined plan that isn't just about the standings.

“We agreed to a contract with UEFA and we are honouring it. The €30m deficit has nothing to do with our debt. What FIFA's Financial Fair Play compels us to do is to keep an equal balance between signings and sales, and that's what we're doing. There's no risk that we end up like Galatasaray.”

Ausilio was asked about President Thohir, who is seldom in Milan and more often travelling across Europe to meet his business partners.

“He is physically distant, but we hear from each other every day. He asks about the players, he keeps up, and he knows more about football than people believe.

“He was disappointed by some of the things reported in the papers. They represented him as a person he is not. He is very respectful and he calls us on our own time-zone, when it's 2a.m. for him.

“My future? My contract expires in 2017, though we still haven't discussed the issue of my renewal. A story was reported once that I'd been to England, but I never did. Thohir went there, to watch Arsenal-Barcelona.

“I'd have trouble in joining Milan, though, after so many years as a Nerazzurro.”

Finally, the sporting director discussed Inter's transfer policy.

“Many won't believe me, but our transfer market is completely self-financed. In the last two windows we moved 28 players, 13 coming in and 15 going out, and the net transactions were near zero.

“We know what we're doing. The media are too superficial.

“Take [Xherdan] Shaqiri, for example. We payed Bayern [Munich] €15m in three instalments. Stoke City paid us the same amount, but in a single settlement.

“This type of operation allows us to look for other players, and yet people keep saying that Inter threw away €15m.”
