The Nerazzurri suffered a frightful decline in form in the second half of the season, and European qualification appears to be compromised yet again.

Even so, the club's sporting director confirmed that they have no intention of replacing Mancini.

“He wants to stay, and we want to continue with him regardless of whether he comes third,” Ausilio told Libero. “It's false that he has total control. At Inter we all work together, club, Coach and players.

“Every decision is pondered with the Coach and approved by the President. There is no Mancini dictatorship.

“We considered Soriano together with Mancini, but at that time the team was having trouble in the box. Se we chose Eder, a marvellous player who immediately integrated himself within the group.

“We're still observing Soriano, and I'm in good terms with [Sampdoria President Massimo] Ferrero. I can't say anything about [Ever] Banega, he has a contract with another club.

“[Fenerbahce's Caner] Erkin is one of the players we're interested in signing as a free agent. We already had a chat with the Coach about the renewals, and no decision will be taken before May 15, the championship's last day.

“After that, we'll have time until June 30 to enforce our rights. This is true of [rumoured leaver Stevan] Jovetic as well. He's a serious professional and he's training well. He hasn't been playing because of his injury.

“We already targeted a player for next year. He's in Serie A, he's an attacking player and he's versatile.

Juventus-Inter? I was so mad after that game. I love my footballers like children, and if they get a bad grade in school, you warn them the first few times but after a while you lose your temper.”

Ausilio then discussed Geoffrey Kondogbia, who was Inter's greatest investment last summer.

“Geoffrey costed us €31m, plus €6m in bonuses. It's the same amount we made by selling [Mateo] Kovacic [to Real Madrid], and we're pleased with our investment.

“The fact that the media disagree is grotesque. Sometimes Mancini and I discuss Kondogbia after the game and we agree he did well, then we talk with journalists and they say he played another bad game.

“People are biased when evaluating his performances because of his price, which could have been cheaper. We'd agreed €27m with Monaco, but Milan joined the fray and we had to raise the bid.

“The lad was uncertain as he could have made more money with the Rossoneri, but in the end he kept his word and so did the club. After all, we'd been following him since he played for Sevilla.

“Mauro Icardi? He is an exemplary professional, among the first to come to the pitch and among the last to leave. He thinks about playing and spending time with his wife and four kids. He has no other concerns.

“He's been saying for months that he wants to stay with Inter for a long time. We want to invest in him for the next ten years and for this reason he's been given the captain's armband, and yet people keep repeating that he's not serious and that Inter plan to sell him.”
