Andrea Bertolacci assures Milan “have not given up” on their Serie A season, but the Coppa Italia Final is crucial.
The midfielder spoke to MilanNews.it while at an event about the use of Twitter in football and was asked about the 0-0 draw at Chievo.
“Luck isn’t on our side at the moment,” said the midfielder. “Against Udinese as well, it would’ve been six points from those who games if we had scored rather than hit the woodwork, then we’d be here talking in very different ways.
“We were unbeaten in nine rounds and we won’t let these last two games knock us down. A difficult match awaits us against Lazio, we have to face it with the right mentality and attitude.
“Throughout the campaign we have had a below par first half and then emerged for the second a completely different team. I don’t know why that is and we need to analyse the situation.
“When we play against sides on a par with us, we have the right mentality, but with teams who are on paper underdogs we tend to take the wrong attitude. A big team cannot do that.”
Considering their best chance of European qualification is to win the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus, have Milan given up on this Serie A season?
“That is absolutely not true. On Monday we were really upset after the draw with Chievo and we want to prove ourselves.
“After three difficult years we have an important chance in the Coppa. Before that there are nine Serie A games and we’ll think about the Final in May.”
