ESPN write that it’s now mathematically impossible for Serie A to climb above the Premier League before next season, as the Aquile can secure a maximum of 2.5 coefficient points and Italy are 3.97 points behind England.

However, the website warns that Serie A will gain 3.893 points on England and Germany from 2016/17, as results from the 2011/12 season will no longer be a part of the five-year total points calculation.

As it stands, Italy would be on 59.082 points at the start of next season with England marginally ahead on 59.159 and Germany on 63.07.

However, the Premier League can still count on Manchester City in the Champions League and one of Manchester United and Liverpool will definitely make the Europa League quarter-finals, although Tottenham Hotspur face an uphill struggle to qualify against Borussia Dortmund.
