Roberto Mancini insists Roma should not have had a penalty and Inter “had the game in hand” until the late equaliser.

Ivan Perisic’s angled drive was cancelled out at the Olimpico by Radja Nainggolan for a 1-1 draw.

“We did very well for 70 minutes. When Dzeko came on, Roma started putting long balls in and he knocked them down for the others to come forward, but clearly if you concede an equaliser at the 85th minute there is going to be regret.

“Until that moment we had the game in hand and the only regret is that we didn’t score a second goal,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset Premium.

“It was disappointing we missed three strikers today, but there are many points still up for grabs. Fortunately we have the advantage in the head-to-head record with Roma, so if we finish level then we go in front.”

This is because Inter beat Roma 1-0 at San Siro and drew at the Olimpico.

“We are still in the running for third place, this is not a fluke point, it was more than fully deserved. If we had other options in attack, we would’ve won.

“Roma stepped on the accelerator in the final 10 minutes and they scored on the least well-worked move, as Dzeko scuffed that ball and it turned into an assist.

“Perisic is a very important player and by the end of the season I think he can have 10 goals.”

Roma should’ve had a penalty when Joao Miranda effectively punched the ball of Dzeko’s head.

“Was it a penalty? I don’t agree. Miranda would’ve had to cut his arm off. You’ve never seen a defender jump with his arm down against a striker like Dzeko.”
