FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio has “not contacted anyone,” including Fabio Capello, to lead Italy after Antonio Conte.

The Federation chief spoke to Il Messaggero Veneto ahead of tomorrow’s friendly with Spain at the Dacia Arena in Udine.

It is the first game since Conte confirmed he will be leaving the Azzurri bench this summer.

“I am convinced we will do well in Euro 2016. It won’t be easy, but if we manage to form a cohesive group, as it was during qualifying, then we’ll bridge the technical gap that divides us from the top national teams.

“Let us always remember we are Italy and when we wear the Azzurri jersey we must give 110 per cent.”

Among the contenders to replace Conte is Capello, whose home town is in the Friuli region.

“Capello is an excellent Coach and this is why he has been repeatedly linked to the job, but at this moment I haven’t contacted anyone and I find it premature to talk about a new choice.

“Let us play these two very prestigious friendlies, then there will be time to do everything the right way in the best interests of the Nazionale.”

Tavecchio said that after Conte he wanted future Italy Coaches to create more of a ‘legacy.’

“The Federation has clear ideas and wants to regain the central position in the Italian football system that has been lost in recent years.

“The FIGC sets the rules and has started to invest heavily to improve the quality of our youth academies. We are convinced that this, along with other initiatives, is putting youth football back at the centre of the Federal project.”
