The Serbian national team was defeated 1-0 by Poland in a friendly on Wednesday, drawing fierce criticism as they took just four points in qualifying, albeit it with a three point deduction.

“In our country, people look at these things differently,” Ljajic said on the official website of the national team.

“So many things are said and written. I really don’t care, I don’t want to pursue the matter, it doesn’t affect me.

“They are nonsense words from irrelevant people, who are perhaps speaking more out of personal interest.

“Poland are a great team, they qualified for the European Championships, beating a full-strength Germany side in the process.

“We went onto the pitch to win, we played better but the win didn't come. We’re satisfied with what we did and if we play like Wednesday more often then the results will come.

“That’s football, we go forward. The atmosphere in the squad is perfect and if we play like we did with Poland there should be no problems qualifying for the next World Cup.

“It’s all down to us.”
