“We must face every game the way we did Sampdoria, so we can continue trying to amaze people,” said the Coach.

“Our position in the table is frankly beyond what we had dreamed of, as it was unimaginable at the start of the season, but now we want to maintain it.

“With a victory on Sunday we’d mathematically secure our Serie A safety. We really didn’t expect to be here at this stage, but worked hard during the break to ensure we didn’t let the concentration levels drop.

“We will be facing highly motivated teams from here to the end of the season, but we are just as motivated.”

Chievo will have to do it without Dario Dainelli, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee and will be out for at least six months.

“We have such regrets about that, especially as he hurt himself during a friendly. He is a fundamental figure in this squad and will be sorely missed. He’ll come back to help us after the surgery and I’m sure he’ll be stronger than ever.”
