Sampdoria Coach and former Roma striker Vincenzo Montella is reportedly a contender for the Lazio job.

The ‘Little Aeroplane’ represented the Aquile’s fierce rivals for 10 years during his playing career, which included scoring four in a Rome Derby in 2002.

The ‘Little Aeroplane’ represented the Aquile’s fierce rivals for 10 years during his playing career, which included scoring four in a Rome Derby in 2002.

Despite his history, Il Tempo reports today that Montella is being seriously considered to take over as Lazio Coach this summer by sporting director Igli Tare.

Stefano Pioli was fired following a 4-1 Derby defeat on Sunday and replaced by Simone Inzaghi, but the former youth team boss is expected to only bridge the gap until the end of the campaign.

The newspaper believes that while Montella is Tare’s choice, President Claudio Lotito continues to prefer the idea of hiring current Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic if he is fired.

However, Calciomercato.com believes that Torino Coach Giampiero Ventura is the most likely contender and that a meeting with Lotito may have already taken place.

Ventura’s experience, ability with young players and low demands in the transfer market make him Lotito’s ideal candidate, according to the outlet.
