Roma midfielder William Vainqueur met with the Lazio fan who racially abused him.

Following the Derby della Capitale win over the Biancocelesti on Sunday, a young Biancocelesti supporter left a racist comment on the Frenchman’s Instagram.

Today Vainqueur attended an event to teach children about racism, and 16-year-old Simone came from Naples to see him.

“I initially answered Simone so that everyone would stop and think,” Vainqueur told Roma’s official website.

“Today I thank him and his father who came with him for the bravery they've shown.”

The young Lazio fan had already apologised on social media, and admits he’s seen the error of his ways.

“I wanted to publicly apologise to Vainqueur. I'm absolutely mortified. You should never insult anyone based on the colour of their skin. That should never happen, be it in football or daily life.”
