The Viola were beaten 2-0 by their Tuscan rivals this afternoon.

“The approach was the right one and we had several scoring opportunities, but today Empoli scored with their only shots on target,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We tried our best and were just lacking a goal. After Empoli took the lead, we tried to push even harder with a good attitude, but it wasn’t enough.

“Now we want to get back to winning ways, as we did in the first half of the season. Defensive football is just unnatural for me.”

Zenit's director of sport was in the stands today, coming hot on the heels of reports Sousa had dinner with Russian club representatives.

“Rumours did not distract us. I don’t need to go into this, it is only normal that in a stadium there are always sporting directors and talent scouts.

“I am worried about the results only. President Della Valle confirmed he wants to continue the rapport with me.”
