Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini claims fan protests against Lazio were “political and had nothing to do with football.”

The game was suspended twice last night due to Rosanero ultras throwing fireworks on to the pitch, including one that exploded just seconds after Antonio Candreva ran over it.

“The clashes in the city centre that afternoon were down to around 200 people who come from a very politicised section of the ultras,” Zamparini told Radio 24.

“The motive was political and had nothing to do with football. Those Palermo supporters are left-wing and the Lazio ones right-wing.

“I hope the authorities do close down the curva where these people sit. I hope it’s shut.”
