Luca Rossettini had put the Rossoblu in front from a set play, while Mohamed Salah hit the post three times before finally equalising.

“It can happen to draw despite a strong performance, so we accept it, compliment Bologna and move forward,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“We need some good performances, then whether we finish second, third or sixth is another matter. We have to maintain this spirit and try to play good football the way we did tonight.”

Roma are now six points adrift of second-placed Napoli and six points clear of Inter in the race for third.

“We can look both ahead of us and over our shoulders, so to Napoli and Inter in the same way.

“I saw the players work hard this week in training and no warning of dips in concentration. I do think the team did exactly what it had to do, then the details of whether a ball hits the woodwork and goes in or back out is beyond our control.

“We created numerous scoring opportunities and pulled back many assists that just couldn’t find that foot to tap in, while Antonio Mirante performed some good saves too.

“We kept the ball for 70 minutes, had 15 shots on goal, so I complimented the players. Francesco Totti is a player within the team and gets all the compliments the rest of his teammates do.”

Rossettini scored by nodding in a Juan Camilo Zuniga free kick, but Spalletti didn’t want to identify the marking error.

“I don’t think it’s right to find the scapegoat or person to blame. We can discuss that between ourselves in training, which lasts far longer than a match situation.
“We lacked some ferocity early on, as we are talented and beautiful, but sometimes a bit too ‘clean-cut.’ After the break we were more aggressive and I really thought we’d take the win home.”

Edin Dzeko was benched again, but Spalletti explained it was an injury concern.

“He had a muscular problem and did us a favour by coming off the bench, because otherwise he was going to start this evening.

“The reason we held off the last substitution until the final minute was because Dzeko could’ve had a problem from one moment to the next.”
