Cesare Prandelli wishes Cristian Brocchi to remain Milan's Coach, but advises obeying President Silvio Berlusconi: 'Just say, yes sir!'

The former Azzurri Coach was in charge of Verona back when Brocchi was a player for that team, and together they managed to win Serie B and earn a promotion into Serie A.

“Brocchi was always able to play everywhere and he was willing to try roles that may not have been the best for him,” Prandelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “He's an attentive and flexible lad, with the right personality to influence the changing room.

“His main quality is his ability to read the situations during a game. It's possible that Cristian may have been destined to work from the bench.

“I remember that when there were discussions about tactics or strategy, Brocchi was always at the heart of it. He was never passive. He was curious, he examined things in depth, he took part. So you could tell that he was going to become a Coach.

“I don't have any particular advice for him. If the president entrusted him with a team like Milan, he just has to say 'Yes sir!' and dive into work according to his ideas.”

Prandelli was then asked whether the remaining seven games would be sufficient for Brocchi to earn a permanent place as Milan's Coach.

“It's not a very long run, but Cristian has a few years of experience. He's a certainty, not a gamble. Brocchi must examine the training sessions and performances carefully and daily.

“If he's happy about the day's work, then he shouldn't think about the 40-day deadline. Of course, the longer you've got, the more you can get into details. But I'm certain that the effects of his work will be visible right away.

“I wish him to still be Milan's Coach in July. He rewarded me greatly when I coached him and he deserves a significant adventure.

“A lot comes down to luck, but then you've got to make your own luck. So come on, Cristian, you're ready.”
