Paulo Sousa confessed it “burns” for Fiorentina to lose against Juventus after a last-gasp Gigi Buffon penalty save.

The Viola had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside, then Mario Mandzukic put the visitors in front.

Just moments after Nikola Kalinic had grabbed the equaliser, Alvaro Morata restored the 2-1 lead and in stoppages Buffon parried the Kalinic spot-kick.

“It really burns, because it was a fine Fiorentina performance with a good attacking attitude,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Juventus were tactically perfect and have a winning culture, so for us to get a positive result in this fixture would’ve been a great step forward in terms of self-belief.

“It really hurts to lose tonight, that is how we are feeling. Technique is an important part of the game, but so are emotions and making the right choices.”

Sousa confessed this week that he had felt burned out at one stage, but had recharged his batteries.

“It has been a different season for me too. Competing against teams and colleagues who are so talented and cause you tactical problems is not easy.

“You always have to find something new and I used up a lot of mental energy along with the club to contribute to this growth.

“I certainly need to improve in this aspect of my work.”
