Diego Armando Maradona said “lucky Juventus deserved” the Scudetto, but blamed Aurelio De Laurentiis for not investing in Napoli.

Today the Bianconeri secured their fifth consecutive Serie A title after Roma’s 1-0 win over the Partenopei.

“Juventus deserve this Scudetto, as they had such a long run of results without dropping points,” Maradona told TV station Piùenne.

“I also have to say, in all honesty, they were extremely lucky! Even in my day they’d have two shots on target and score four goals. I’m not whining, I’m just saying the truth that all of Italy knows.

“The real difference is on the bench. Today Maurizio Sarri looked at the bench and did not have as many alternatives as Max Allegri.

“Napoli had a truly great campaign and played much better football than Juve, but I repeat, they have two shots on target and they score.

“There are so many who can chop and change. Paulo Dybala comes off and Alvaro Morata comes on, they all know how to score. It’s difficult to compete against a team as strong as that.

“Plus every time Juve’s opponents do reach the goal, there’s Gigi Buffon who still looks like an 18-year-old in goal. He was decisive this season.

“I speak about good luck because I feel that within me, but I also cannot deny that Juve have an excellent Coach and fine collective of players.

“The squad also has great strength in depth and that means the club acted impeccably. During difficult moments, they were able to resolve problems that Napoli could not handle.

“When the Azzurri needed to buy, they didn’t do it. The fans know this full well. I am not a friend of De Laurentiis or any other director, I just want what is best for the people of Napoli. This year, the fans wanted more.

“Napoli have proved in recent years that they can be great even without spending a single Euro. Imagine what they could achieve if they bothered spending.”
