Tension between Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis and Maurizio Sarri could see the Coach leave if they finish third, say reports.

The former Empoli boss arrived last summer and has had an impressive impact, leading the Partenopei to second place in Serie A.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport writes today that an icy relationship between Sarri and De Laurentiis could cause problems, with Sarri yet to sign a renewal.

Under the current agreement the tactician should sign a one-year extension before 31 May to confirm him for next season, and continue to do so until 2020.

Sarri accepted these conditions last summer but reportedly now feels he has done enough to earn more trust from the club.

He wants a deal that isn't conditioned by this clause and with a higher salary, according to the newspaper.

But Gazzetta also believes that Sarri is frustrated by the lack of protection he has felt from the club during difficult moments and although he hasn’t criticised the January transfer market activity, it hasn’t helped him either.

The same discontent applies to De Laurentiis, who will wait until the season finishes before making his assessments.

The second half of the season and particularly Napoli’s poor performances away to the big teams have disappointed the President.

Furthermore, Sarri’s management during some big matches hasn’t convinced him, in addition to the small amount of squad rotation during the season.

Therefore Napoli slipping to third place could see the two parties split according to the newspaper, with an appointment set for the end of the season.
