“It will be emotional seeing Mancini again, as first he was my teammate and then my Coach. Now we are rival tacticians,” said Inzaghi in a Press conference.

“It was him who convinced Sven-Goran Eriksson and President Sergio Cragnotti to sign me at Lazio. I am happy to face him for the first time on the touchline.

“Mancini is a great Coach. I started this profession because I want to have an important career and win, just as I did as a player and as Coach of the Primavera youth team. I hope to reach Roberto’s level, as he sets the example.”

Inzaghi won his first two games in charge, but then lost the next two and his future on the Lazio bench seems unlikely.

“I am very relaxed because I am doing my work as best I can. I am satisfied with how the team played these four games. We’d have three more points if we had only got what we deserved against Sampdoria.

“We still believe in Europe and it was really disappointing on Sunday, as I’d never lost a match like that. We must be more determined both in attack and defence, especially on set plays. We didn’t deserve to lose.

“We are on the right track and must continue playing our football as we search for the result. The fans love Lazio and we can bring them back to the stadium.

“We need the perfect performance against Inter, because they are a top level team. We must cover the spaces well without leaving gaps for their very strong wingers.

“We can then wait for the right moment to be ruthless in front of goal.”

Inzaghi admits to injury concerns, as Miroslav Klose, Lucas Biglia, Senad Lulic, Milan Bisevac and Filip Djordjevic all need fitness tests.
