Paulo Sousa said Fiorentina have “lost the belief” after a 0-0 with Chievo and confirmed he’ll meet the club next week.

The Viola have won just one of their last 10 Serie A games and catching Inter in fourth place seems to be beyond them.

“Against a physical side that spent the entire first half sitting back it was tricky, but as soon as we decided to run some risks, we created the spaces for our opponents,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“I think we controlled almost the entire match. We should’ve been more aggressive. I want my players to take responsibility for their own actions.”

Were Fiorentina too focused on solo moves rather than working as a unit, for example with Mauro Zarate and Cristian Tello?

“We’ve already talked about this. Mauro has this hunger for goals and that is positive. In any case, the team is welcoming him and working with his characteristics.

“Tello is a player who can do more with his pace. We mustn’t forget that he was very inconsistent last season and we signed him so he could get regular football.

“There are various factors that are affecting our results. We are aware of our possibilities. The problem is we went into a difficult period and all the belief we’d built up at the start of the season was lost.

“Compared to the first few months we are no longer as effective. There are few games in which the opposition put us under serious pressure or stopped us keeping possession, but we need to be more consistent.”

The downturn in results has also coincided with transfer gossip and suggestions Sousa will join Zenit. Is there any more news on his future?

“I have already talked about this topic too much and I don’t want to discuss it any more. At the end of next week I will meet the Della Valle brothers.”
