The Bianconeri went out in extra time to Bayern Munich, who were eliminated in the semi-final last night by Atletico Madrid.

“There are regrets we’re not at this stage of the tournament,” director general Marotta told Mediaset Premium.

“We wanted to be out there on the pitch, but the verdict must be accepted. The Champions League is not like a League tournament where true values emerge over the course of 38 rounds. It’s a competition where incidents count for everything.”

Manchester City are in tonight’s semi-final with Real Madrid, further adding to the regrets as Juventus beat them home and away, yet finished second in their group.

“The defeat to Sevilla did have weigh on us, but the biggest regret is tied to the loss in Munich. Seeing our target disappear a few seconds from the final whistle was hard.

“We are at the same level as the biggest clubs. I say that with pride, not arrogance. We have been able to reach an excellent level, while other sides like Barcelona are on the way back down.

“We have grown, other teams less so.”
