“I personally miss winning the derby because in the first part of my Genoa adventure I’d always done well in this fixture. It’s also important to end the season in front of Samp, an achievement that is not all that common for Genoa nowadays.”
When these sides clashed in January it was a 3-2 thriller won by Samp as the ‘away’ team.
“In my view, they are now two different teams, as we both changed so much in the transfer window,” noted Gasp.
“We didn’t start that badly, then they made the most of our error and it became an uphill struggle, but my team deserves great credit for the fightback.
“I believe Samp are virtually safe, so they don’t need the points any more than we do. Naturally nobody needs motivation when it’s the derby, as the ambition is supremacy within the city.”
Alessio Cerci is out, as he will undergo knee surgery to clear up cartilage, while Mattia Perin is another long-term injury absentee.
