While the match may be remembered more for Francesco Totti's 600th game than for the performance of either team, the 52-year-old did want to set the record straight about why they lost.

“When you play against this type of Roma, you need to have a little bit of luck,” Maran told the Press after the game. “We're going back with a heavy defeat, but we know things could have been different without the injuries.

“Roma deserve our compliments. I think Totti is proud of this stadium, he deserves it because he showed loyalty. He's been a great champion and he still is.”

The Coach was also asked about the race between the Giallorossi and Napoli for second place, which is still open.

“When you come to the end [of the championship], I think it's your psychological rather than physical energy that makes the difference. Winning tonight won't be easy for Napoli.

“As for ourselves, we managed to stay in the upper half of the table, so I'd say things went more than well. These lads put in a lot of effort every Sunday and often did their best to surprise everyone.

“It's hard work that must be talked about, and not everything else. We have one more game and we still want to improve our position. After that, we'll speak with the club and see how to go on.”
