Jorge Sampaoli confirmed there is “a very good chance” he could take the Lazio job, “but there’s still a mountain of issues to clarify.”
The former Chile Coach met Lazio President Claudio Lotito and director Igli Tare in Rome this week and confirmed his negotiations.
“It’s true, I have just left Italy and am about to fly to England,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport at an airport in Spain.
“Let’s say I am on a little tour to get to know the reality of European football and to verify if there are any interesting opportunities.
“There’s a very good chance I could go to Lazio, because it is a great club. Having said that, there’s still a mountain of issues to discuss and many things to clarify.
“Let’s say you should ask the same question to the Lazio directors. I am in no rush, as my European tour can continue for a while longer.
“The only thing I’ve decided is to not go too far away in case there is an urgent meeting with a club. Lazio included, naturally.”
It’s reported Lazio have offered a two-year contract worth €2.2m per season, which is still well below his demands of €3m.
However, it is higher than the sum proposed by Espanyol and Valencia during the Spanish leg of his jaunt.
