Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has reportedly made contact with Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic about a return to Serie A.

The playmaker joined the Merengues from Inter last season but could be set to play on the other side of the Milanese divide next season.

Sport Mediaset has reported that Galliani has made his first move, speaking with the Croatia international when he visited the city last week.

The outlet says that sources close to the midfielder have assured that he is keen on a return to the city he left a year ago after finding it difficult to break into the Madrid team this season.

However, the situation regarding the future ownership of the Rossoneri must be decided before a move is made, as Chinese investors are currently in a period of exclusivity ahead of a possible purchase.

The report underlines that Milan have a good relationship with Real Madrid which could help a move go ahead, while the idea is to sign the 22-year-old on loan with the option to buy.
