After fitness tests, gym work and passing practice, the team was set out in a 3-5-2 formation.
 
In the red shirts were Lorenzo Tonelli, Angelo Ogbonna and Davide Zappacosta in defence, with De Rossi as playmaker.
 
Antonio Candreva and Stephan El Shaarawy took the wide roles with Alessandro Florenzi and Emanuele Giaccherini in midfield.
 
Graziano Pellè and Fabio Borini formed one strike partnership, later alternated with Ciro Immobile and Eder.
 
In the blue jerseys the defence was formed of Armando Izzo, Francesco Acerbi and Davide Astori.
 
Lorenzo De Silvestri was on the right, Federico Bernardeschi the left, Jorginho as playmaker with Danilo Cataldi and Marco Parolo.
 
Roberto Soriano and Marco Benassi also stepped in to the midfield positions.
 
Leonardo Pavoletti partnered Lorenzo Insigne in attack.
 
They played a game between ranks and Immobile was on target, while Genoa striker Pavoletti saw his goal ruled offside.
