Donnarumma: ‘Extraordinary season’

Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma says it has been ‘an extraordinary season’ but admits ‘we still regret the outcome of the Coppa Italia.’

The goalkeeper made his Serie A debut aged 16 this season and has become the Rossoneri’s undisputed number one between the sticks.

The Rossoneri missed out on a European spot for next season when they were beaten 1-0 by Juventus in extra time during Saturday’s Coppa Italia final.

“We’re all still regretting the outcome of the Coppa Italia final, we gave our best and deserved more,” Donnarumma explained to Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I can’t explain why we didn’t play more often in the way we did against Juve. It’s probably a question of mentality.

“You ask me about the next Coach, but the question should be directed at Galliani.

“I had Brocchi in the youth teams, his methods brought him to the first team. I would be happy if he stayed, although I’ll always be grateful to Sinisa Mihajlovic for the faith he showed me.

“But for me it was still an extraordinary season, debuting at my age in Serie A isn’t for everyone. The advice of Abbiati and Diego Lopez has been invaluable, I’m happy to have shared this experience with them.”
