Gordon Strachan is confident Scotland won’t be “embarrassed” in tomorrow’s friendly against Italy.

It is hosted in Malta and kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

"So far, we've never had that, that the players have been embarrassed in the time we've been here," Coach Strachan told the BBC.

"So I see no reason why that should change. You've got to get the balance.

"So far, we've never had that, that the players have been embarrassed in the time we've been here," Coach Strachan told the BBC.

"So I see no reason why that should change. You've got to get the balance. You look at their teamsheets and say 'they're top, top players'. But we've done a bit of work this week.

"If you don't switch on and do your jobs properly, every game can be a problem. You're talking to someone who got beat 6-0 by Queen of the South when I was at Dundee and they were a division below us. That's what can happen."

After playing the Azzurri, Scotland will take on Euro 2016 hosts France in another friendly.

"There are a lot of reasons why we took these games. One, we felt it was attractive. If you wanted players to feel up for it and looking forward to it, it had to be big-name teams and we've got big-name teams.

"It's big players they're playing against and it's a great test for the youngsters and the older members of the team.”

Strachan also held a brief Press conference in Malta this evening.

“I have the line-up in mind, but I won’t tell you what it is. Scotland don’t have a good record against Italy? I don’t think there are many sides with a good record against Italy.

“Even if we are against Italy and France, I will put my faith in the young players, because that’s how they’ll learn from those with more experience.”
