With Antonio Conte set to leave for Chelsea after Euro 2016, it is widely believed that the former Torino Coach will pick up his mantle.

On from FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio's hints on the subject, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports of contacts between technical director Marcello Lippi and Ventura, as well as a green light given by the 'senators' of the Azzurri for the assignment of the role.

The newspaper does not specify whether the figureheads in question are the players or the directors of the national team.

Ventura will have a meeting with Tavecchio on the weekend. Italy's new Coach is due to be announced on June 7, and unless there are any last-minute surprises it's going to be Ventura.
