“I took a whack and it was getting hard. I thought the referee was going to add on three minutes. I went off as a precaution,” he told AS.

“The important thing is we’re getting a better understanding, not who scores. We’re a team. We’re improving our rhythm, preparing for the Euros to be at the highest level.

“I’m just another player in the national team. It’s been a tough year for me and I can’t be content with just being here, I want to play.

“My future? Everything I say, then what’s reported…I said who wouldn’t want to play for Madrid? But I’ve seen other things I haven’t said.

“I’m focused on the Euros and what happens, happens.”
