The Giallorossi are being linked with three big names to restock their midfield after the departure of Miralem Pjanic, the other two being Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic and Zenit St Petersburg's Axel Witsel.

Wijnaldum was being touted as the most likely candidate, as the other two are the more expensive options, and a meeting had been set up with the Premier League club.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Roma have now presented their offer to Newcastle. They are looking to pick up the midfielder on a loan basis, with a high price to be paid on the optional purchase clause.

The exact price is not specified, but the player was believed to be valued at €30m, so the clause is presumably for a similar amount.
