Sweden Coach Erik Hamren argued “the Italian defence did its job” after a 1-0 defeat to the Azzurri.

Eder sealed the winner at the 88th minute in Toulouse, whereas Sweden haven’t had a single shot on target in their two games – scoring against Ireland with an own goal.

“We had a drop in concentration at the end, but overall defended well against Italy,” said Hamren in a Press conference.

“In the final 20 minutes we didn’t hold out well enough and didn’t create the scoring opportunities we needed. We had a chance with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but have had a few problems creating chances lately.

“We worked our socks off, but were unable to find the equaliser. We had several chances, but played against a side that defends very well. Belgium failed to score against Italy too.

“I can assure you we tried to score, but their defence did its job. Ibrahimovic did what he was supposed to do, we have to respect players for what they are. He was very disappointed, as we all are.

“Against Belgium we have to defend the way we did today, but improve in attack so we can win the game. We are doing the best we can, but have to take our opponents into consideration too.

“We had more possession today and are trying, but the result changes little, as we’d have to win against Belgium anyway.”
