Eder curled in a late winner from the edge of the box in Toulouse, but the Swedes didn’t have a single shot on target.

“I want to compliment the team and particularly our defenders. They are truly unique, I will never stop thanking them, as again today they avoided many problems for me,” the captain told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a difficult match, but when you believe to the end, you are able to win games, maybe even without necessarily deserving to.

“Today perhaps a draw would’ve been the fair result.”

Italy won both their games with clean sheets and have already qualified for the Round of 16 at Euro 2016.

“It is wonderful to be in the next round, seeing as that hasn’t happened to us a lot lately!” joked Buffon.

“Now we can work in peace for about 10 days and we deserved this qualification. We’ve got to keep our feet on the ground, as our humility is what allowed us to get this far.”
