Pescara President Daniele Sebastiani reveals he knew nothing about Milan’s bid for Gianluca Lapadula until yesterday afternoon.
The striker had been wanted by clubs including Napoli, Genoa, Juventus and Leicester City, but the Rossoneri completed a shock swoop today.
“I spoke to (Napoli director Cristiano) Giuntoli about Lapadula until 2am, as I was convinced the lad could only choose between Napoli and Genoa,” Sebastiani told Radio Crc.
“I spoke to Adriano Galliani 10 days ago and he expressed how much he liked Lapadula, but Milan had to first of all focus on selling. Evidently something happened and I don’t know if they spoke to his agents.
“Yesterday afternoon I heard about all this via a phone call and asked them to move in the fairest way possible. It changed little for me, as the price-tag had already been set, but I did have different agreements with Napoli.
“Nothing has changed between me and Napoli, because Giuntoli realised this was not what Pescara wanted. I am really disappointed, especially as I put myself out there for him.
“I don’t even think it is his agent Alessandro Moggi’s responsibility, because Lapadula is not an easy lad to work with. For example, in June last year I walked away from the negotiation table several times.
“This is what Lapadula is like, he has a heart of gold, but also his own ideas. I tried calling him yesterday, but his phone was switched off. I hope he’ll give me a call.
“It’s a real shame, as what we did together to get Pescara promoted this year was exceptional. I just wish that if he’d decided not to join Napoli or Genoa he could’ve been clearer and dealt with the situation differently.
“I spoke to Genoa about it too, but nowadays the players hold a lot of power.”
