The Euro 2016 clash between Italy and Spain is on Monday at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

“In these past two years, I have learned more than in my entire life before then,” the former Juventus hitman told Marca.

“It is much more difficult to score goals in Italy, as they are experts at defending. In Spain you get seven clear-cut chances to finish off, but in Italy you only get a few and have to hit the mark with all of them.

“Italy are always a competitive side and, like in Serie A, it is very difficult to score goals against them. Being there for two years made me a better striker.”

As well as Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon is also part of that solid Italy structure.

“Buffon is so strong in the one-on-one situations. Like Iker Casillas, he is a legend of world football. The BBC guys are the best defenders in the world and opposition teams don’t want to play against them.

“When those three and Buffon are back there, it is almost impossible to score past them.”
