Gigi Buffon points out Italy “are the only side that truly made Spain suffer when they were the best team in the world.”
The two sides meet again in the Euro 2016 Round of 16 on Monday at 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).
It was pointed out to the goalkeeper that Italy haven’t beaten Spain in an official game since the 1994 World Cup Final, including the 4-0 defeat in the Euro 2012 Final.

It was pointed out to the goalkeeper that Italy haven’t beaten Spain in an official game since the 1994 World Cup Final, including the 4-0 defeat in the Euro 2012 Final.
“In the last four competitive games the only clear defeat was in the Euro 2012 Final, also in my view because we were physically and emotionally wrecked at that point and Spain outclassed us,” said Buffon at a Press conference.
“In the other three, they were draws, including in extra time, so it proves we caused the best team in the world at that stage some problems and made our presence felt.
“During that period Spain won everything possible and I am convinced the only side that truly made them suffer in that time was Italy.”
