Mario Gomez warned Italy will be the first real test for Germany at Euro 2016. “We believe in ourselves.”

The Fiorentina-owned striker spent this season on loan at Besiktas and will face some of his old Serie A opponents on Saturday.

"Italy is not Slovakia, it will be tough,” Gomez told reporters.

“But to me what matters most is that we are World Cup holders and want to add the title of European Champions to that too.

“So far, the tournament has gone very well. We played a great group phase and improved in the Round of 16. We believe in ourselves.”

The Germans are yet to concede a goal in this tournament and crushed Slovakia 3-0, but still allowed chances at the back.

“The performance was not perfect and of course there are things to be improved. It will be an incredibly tough and exciting game for Germany, but the Italians will be thinking the exact same thing about us.”
