Italy capitulated in a sudden death penalty shoot-out after the 1-1 quarter-final draw, leaving Euro 2016 in Bordeaux.

Surprisingly, Joachim Low moved his side to three at the back in order to mirror the Azzurri’s system.

“The Coach had warned us this morning that the Germans might change their tactical approach, so we were prepared for this,” Parolo told Sky Sport Italia.

“It means we have created a team and a system that other sides respect and fear, so they’d rather transform themselves than risk taking us on.

“This is the kind of experience that teaches you a great deal. I feel sorry that I didn’t work with the Coach earlier, as he could’ve really helped me in my career and to improve in the Italy jersey.

“I gave my heart and soul. I hope my little son was proud of me, too.”
