Juventus and Germany midfielder Sami Khedira felt they “played like one big team” to knock Italy out of Euro 2016 on penalties.

The quarter-final ended 1-1 in Bordeaux after 90 and 120 minutes, so had to be decided in a sudden death penalty shoot-out.

“The Mannschaft has played like one big team. We didn't really allow them anything. We were very unlucky to concede,” Khedira told uefa.com.

Khedira only lasted 16 minutes before having to limp off with a muscular problem.

“Mario Gomez and I had to come off. We now have some ailing players, which is normal in such a big tournament. We will once more field a competitive side in the semi-final."
