The Spaniard joined the Bianconeri for €20m in an unusual deal which allowed the Merengues to buy him back two years later for €30m.

The player's rapid development and emergence as one of the most prominent strikers in Serie A compelled the Spanish club to take him back, in spite of Juventus' resistance.

After weeks of negotiations and attempts to delay the inevitable, the club from Turin now confirmed the move with a statement on their official site.

“Following the activation by Real Madrid Club de Futbol of the buy-back option for the sporting services of Alvaro Borja Morata Martin, Juventus Football Club SpA communicate that they have sold the player definitively for a total of €30m, a sum which can be paid in two instalments, relieved of the amount that Juventus still owe for the signing of the player (€10.7m),” reads the statement.

“The operation generates a positive economic surplus of approximately €16m in the 2016/17 budget and a net revenue of €19.3m over the 2016/17 and 2017/18 budgets.”

The statement includes a lengthy recap of Morata's achievements with the club, and ends by thanking the player.

“Images, joy, great plays and goals,” ends the statement. “And emotions, which you've gifted us without ever holding back, Alvaro, over two years during which you've been an absolute protagonist of victories sculpted in the history books of Juventus.

“For this reason, as our paths part, we can do nothing but thank you wholeheartedly, great champion. And we wish you good luck.”
