The Gazzetta dello Sport reports that much of Mancini's focus was on working with a three-man defence, the system that proved surprisingly successful under Antonio Conte at Euro 2016.

Forming two teams out of his players, he tested both the 3-4-1-2 and the 4-2-3-1, although the former was given greater attention.

Danilo D'Ambrosio, Andrea Ranocchia and Juan Jesus were asked to work together, forming a core three-man back-line that worked behind a midfield line of Yuto Nagatomo, Felipe Melo, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Cristian Ansaldi.

The Nerazzurri will have an opportunity to test out their tactical solutions in tomorrow's first official friendly, against second-category Austrian team Wattens.
