Italy beat Germany in the U19 European Championships thanks to an outstanding show by goalkeeper Alex Meret.

Twice Borussia Dortmund's Janni Serra had a chance to take a lead, but his first header was off the mark and the second was brilliantly saved by Italy 'keeper Meret.

The second half started in similar fashion, and it was only thanks to an outstanding Meret that the score remained level.

Eventually Max Besuschkow broke the balance as he conceded a penalty at the 77'. Federico Dimarco converted it a minute later, sealing the score until the end of the match, in spite of the German's continued efforts to equalise.
