The Colombian international returned injured from the Copa America, with the Rossoneri confirming that he would have to go under the knife.

“AC Milan announces that Cristian Zapata today underwent surgery on his left ankle, performed by professor Niek van Dijk, assisted by Milan’s health co-ordinator doctor Rodolfo Tavana,” a statement begins.

“The operation was successful. There will be medical tests in six weeks where his return to sporting action will be predicted with greater accuracy.”
