Roma are willing to offer Arsenal and Chelsea target Kostas Manolas a raise to €2m yearly, but he won't sign for less than €3m.

The issue of the Greek's renewal is becoming thorny at Trigoria. The player's contract currently expires in 2019, and the club would like to avoid coming to a point where they'll be forced to sell the player or watch him leave on a free transfer.

Manolas is in a strong position to negotiate, as he knows that he cannot be sold no matter how much he forces his hand: if Roma were to sell him now, they'd have to hand over 50 per cent of their earnings to the defender's former club Olympiacos.

According to Il Messaggero, sporting director Walter Sabatini offered a raise from Manolas' current salary of €1.4m yearly to €2m.

This is seen to be insufficient though, as the player reportedly wants €3m per season plus bonuses, to reflect his importance as the Lupi's prime central defender.
