Former Juventus director Luciano Moggi advised the club to “sell Paul Pogba immediately to pay for Gonzalo Higuain, then get Hector Herrera.”

The disgraced director general worked at both Napoli and Juventus during his career, before it was terminated in the Calciopoli scandal.

“The feeling I get is that Higuain will remain at Napoli,” Moggi told Radio Crc.

“If I were Juventus, I’d have no doubts at all. I’d sell Pogba immediately and then straight away sign Higuain. I’d go to Porto, put Herrera in Pogba’s place and nobody could tell the difference.

“Higuain is a far more decisive player. The chances of winning the Champions League would increase and he’d represent a substantial change.”

Moggi was at the helm when Juve sold Zinedine Zidane in 2001 for a then-record €73.5m.

The club invested that money by signing Gigi Buffon, Lilian Thuram and Pavel Nedved.

Moggi was also asked about the current transfer strategy of Napoli.

“They are increasing the number of benchwarmers, as getting the bench to the level of the first choices is not easy, but it is decisive. That’s why Napoli lost the Scudetto last season.

“In terms of effort, marking and runs, Emanuele Giaccherini is a precious player. Lorenzo Tonelli is a good defender, now they need another one or two big names.”
