Massimo Oddo promises Pescara will be 'a brave team, that will try to win even against Juventus'.

The Delfini managed to reach Serie A this year, but they'll have a tough time defending their place after star striker Gianluca Lapadula was sold to Milan.

“I'm planning a small Pescara, but one with quality,” said the Coach, in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport. “It will be a brave Pescara, that will try and win on every pitch. I hope they don't call me arrogant for that.”

The 40-year-old had a pretty turbulent career after he retired as a footballer, and he was not in fact planning on a job as a Coach.

“To be honest coaching was the last thing I expected. I wanted to become a director, but they threw me in at Pescara in May 2015, replacing [Marco] Baroni on the last day.

“Anything could have happened. We lost in the play-off final, but the last championship was exciting as we conquered Serie A. That's how it went, all in a hurry, with no planning behind it at all.”

Oddo then sketched the type of team that he is trying to design.

“There's always been beautiful football at Pescara. My style is based on good organisation above all else. I want intelligent players who can think for themselves, I don't like predefined tactics.

“When a man has the ball, the other four must present him with solutions. Then it's his responsibility to choose the best one.

“In Serie B they spoke of a Barcelona-like Pescara, of tiki-taka. But my priority are vertical balls, not possession. My models are Sassuolo and Napoli, who can execute that best.

“I won't park the bus against Juventus in Turin. I'll try going for it, that's my philosophy. We must be well-organised when we don't have the ball in the processes of marking, covering diagonals, and pushing play towards the wings.

“When we've got the ball, I want an organised chaos. We must be as unpredictable as possible, never static. We must be thinking by ourselves. And we need quality runs, because it's important to pace ourselves.

“For me the essential thing is that we kept the main spine of the team. We're not starting again from zero.”

Finally, Oddo was asked what the future for the team was in the absence of Lapadula.

“Right now there's [Rey] Manaj. Two more strikers will join us, but don't ask me for their names. I only know that the players in my team will show their worth.”
