Porto Coach Nuno Espirito Santo warned “we know how and when we can hurt Roma” in the Champions League preliminary round.

The first leg of the play-off is tomorrow evening at the Estadio do Dragao, kicking off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The second let will be at the Stadio Olimpico on August 23.

“The team works hard every day and we have faith that we’ll be competitive,” said the tactician in his Press conference this evening.

“This means we will have to fight for every ball and on every metre of the pitch.”

Porto v Roma is arguably the most difficult draw of the preliminary round.

“We knew this round would be difficult and any of the opponents we met would be of a high level.

“Roma have a great tradition in Europe, but we want to go through to the group phase. We have a good enough knowledge to realise the extent of the test tomorrow.

“I won’t point out any special tactical realisations, so as not to give our opponents extra clues. I can say my players are certainly ready for this game.

“The round will not be decided tomorrow, but we want to win, we know how and when we can hurt Roma. We have a clear desire to win.

“The real advantage will be playing at the Dragao in the first leg, pushed on by 50,000 people. We want to make the Dragao a very difficult stadium for anyone to enter.

“We want to be in the Champions League and play great games, so the financial aspect of qualifying for the group stage is irrelevant.

“What Porto did in the Champions League is in history. All the Portuguese are proud of that, so Roma will face not only 11 very motivated players, but also an entire country supporting them.”

The Giallorossi are no strangers to the Champions League, but it is their first ever play-off for this tournament.
