The Brazilian completed the transfer this evening, on loan with obligation to buy for €13.5m plus €1.5m bonuses and a sell-on percentage.

“Bruno Peres is a player we sought out because other situations changed. First of all, he is a strong player. If Roma want to be a strong club, they must have equally strong resources,” Coach Spalletti said in a Press conference.

“Peres brings quality, as do others in the squad. He has very clear characteristics, can run up and down the entire right flank and we were missing someone who gave us that option, as he can also play on the left.

“Alessandro Florenzi played for Italy on the left too, so we have these other opportunities with these characteristics.”

With Bruno Peres coming in from Torino, will Roma transform to a three-man defence?

“No, we certainly will not play on a permanent basis with three at the back. Peres can play as a right-back in a four or as the fifth man on the wing in midfield.

“He gives us some valid alternatives. We’ll also have to see how they work together, as football is not mathematics, it’s about chemistry and can be unpredictable. Over the course of a campaign everyone must give their best and participate in this adventure realising how strong their teammates all are.”

Roma face Porto in the Champions League play-off tomorrow.

"Although he is technically available for the first leg, we do not intend to fly him over for that. We do intend to introduce him into the squad for the second leg."
