Porto Coach Nuno Espirto Santos felt they “deserved more” than a 1-1 draw with Roma in the Champions League play-off.

The Giallorossi dominated the first half, but after Thomas Vermaelen’s red card on 41 minutes were pegged back throughout the second period.

“The first 20 minutes were decent on our part, then we started to play the way we want, with aggression, intensity and pace,” the Coach told O Jogo.

“We proved once again that we can overturn a negative result. We created much more than our opponents and deserved more.

“We do not emerge satisfied from this game, but I am optimistic for the second leg. I am proud of my team.”

Porto had a goal disallowed for offside after a strange ricochet, but the penalty for Emerson Palmieri’s handball was arguably soft.

“I don’t want to talk about the referee, as everyone saw his work. We played well as a team, the players were united and worked to the limits, which is what we also want for the future.”
