The striker has been shown an interest by a number of smaller teams, one of the most tangible approaches being that of Serie B club Virtus Entella.

“Cassano is a friend, and it would be a dream for me to see him wearing our colours,” president Antonio Gozzi told SampNews24. “We often speak and there are mutually good feelings.

“He's a good lad as well as a champion. Unfortunately it doesn't depend only on us, but on Sampdoria. If the opportunity arises, we'll welcome him with open arms, because he can be decisive in Serie A, never mind in Serie B.”

The conditions that Gozzi refers to have to do with Cassano's salary, which Virtus are unable to cover on their own.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Doria will have to pay the player a liquidation sum that would cover at least half of his salary for the coming year, if they want to see the deal completed.
